Future State

Future state is a description of the planned and improved, but not yet realized condition of a process, operation or system. Future state is how things will work in the future. It is a term that is common in operational improvement methods and is often used with the term: Current state.

When we work on process improvement the Current State is the ‘As Is” or baseline condition and the future state is the ‘To Be’ condition.

Future State  and Current State are jargon terms used in the application of operational excellence tools and techniques; especially process mapping.
