IDOV (Identify, Design, Optimize and Validate)
IDOV (Identify, Design, Optimize and Validate) is a step-by-step approach to Six Sigma as applied to product and service design. The four basic steps of the methodology are:
- Identify the process improvement goals that are consistent with customer demands and enterprise strategy, and key design opportunities / ideas to achieve them.
- Design the new product, process, etc. utilizing innovation, inventive techniques and concurrent engineering methods.
- Optimize the design concept, using techniques like design of experiments and other methods.
- Validate the product and process performance against expectations and resolve any issues or go back to the design step.
IDOV is most commonly referred to as a Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology.
